The Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (FT-EIC) once again enlivened ITS’s aspirations to go global with the team’s departure to take part in the Sakura Program in Japan. The Sakura Program is one of the programs organized by the Japanese government to introduce Japanese culture and promote understanding between young people from East Asian countries and Japan. Prof. Dr. Ir. Mauridhi Hery Purnomo, M.Eng., succeeded in collaborating with Professor Yoshinobu Sato, Ph.D., a professor at a well-known institute in Japan, the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST).
Professor Yoshinobu Sato, who is fondly called Professor Sato, has had a good relationship with ITS for a long time. This year, international relations with Professor Sato were strengthened again through the Sakura Program with the theme Practice on Medical Image-based Healthcare AI Development Towards Super-aging Society. A total of 10 people from the Department of Electrical Engineering will depart for this program on September 5, 2023. Under the guidance of Professor Sato, the team has a valuable opportunity to broaden their knowledge, especially in its two main laboratories, namely the Imaging-based Computational Biomedicine (ICB) Laboratory at NAIST and other civilian laboratories near his residence.
“We intend to study by joining this program. Hopefully, the existence of the Sakura Program this time can open up other wider international opportunities for the ITS academic community,” said Oddy, one of the Sakura Program participants during an interview.
The team’s participation in the Sakura Program received full support in the form of fully funded accommodation from the Japanese government as the program organizer. They will get the opportunity to study for 10 days there, participating in research supervised by Professor Sato as well as studying Japanese culture. During their visit, participants will be involved in various educational and cultural activities, such as taking Japanese language lessons, understanding the Japanese education system, visiting schools and universities, interacting with Japanese students, and taking part in traditional Japanese activities such as tea ceremonies, traditional arts, and others. In addition, they also had the opportunity to exchange stories about cultural aspects between Indonesia and Japan.
