On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, the first Doctoral Promotion Session was held for the ITS Information Systems Doctoral study program. This session was attended by around 100 people, including guest speakers, lecturers, the general public, and students’ families, and was held in room 2109, Department of Information Systems. The doctoral candidate, Dr. Tining Haryanti S.Kom., M.M., M.Kom., successfully completed her doctoral studies with a dissertation entitled “Increasing Digital Competitiveness in Indonesia Through Grand Design Development and Digital Maturity Measurement Applications Based on General System Theory (GST)”.

This student and Head of the Informatics Department at Muhammadiyah University of Surabaya (UMS) has shown strong interest in the topic of Digital Transformation since pursuing her master’s education at the ITS Information Systems Masters Study Program.

“Even though it is not required, I am enthusiastic about researching this topic and have published 3 international articles on the topic of digitalization,” explained Tining.

Entering the doctoral level, Tining started her dissertation on the issue of Indonesia’s digital competitiveness, which is ranked 51st out of 63 countries in the world. This certainly triggers various sectors to continue to increase their digital competitiveness. From an academic perspective, she said that what could be attempted was to provide a perspective from an academic point of view. Therefore, Tining created a framework that is able to assess the level of success of digital transformation or Digital Maturity by adopting ISO as a maturity level. This research achieved an accuracy of 0.96 in the inter-code agreement test.

As a measure of success, Tining created the dx-samm.com website artifact to be tested in Design Science Research. Apart from that, this website is the result of long research that she has carried out so that the benefits can be felt directly by the industry. Currently, she is holding close discussions with KOMINFO and the East Java Research and Development Center regarding the real implementation of this application in industry and digitalization.

Tining admitted that she loves research and feels that there are many things that would be a shame to miss and that there are still many things that can be developed in this topic. Therefore, her enthusiasm for research and scholarship can be seen from the 7 articles she has published in international publications and 1 International Work Copyright. Apart from that, the dissertation she produced also attracted global attention. She admitted that she was often contacted to hold open discussions by various international academics.
