In 2023, the Sapuangin Team once again stood as the sole representative from the Asia Pacific region at the Shell Eco-Marathon (SEM) World 2023 held in Bangalore, India. Their tireless efforts, combined with the prayers of their parents encapsulated in their slogan ‘mother’s prayers’, led to a remarkable 3rd place finish. Their car was honored with the title of the fastest urban car in the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) category.

At the prestigious racing arena hosting world-class competitions, the Sapuangin Team competed fiercely against 12 expert teams from diverse countries. Carrying their history of achieving 68 points at the Mandalika circuit in Lombok, the Sapuangin Team showcased their prowess in speed and fuel efficiency. Consequently, they achieved an outstanding fuel efficiency milestone of 281 kilometers per liter and a speed gain of one minute and 37 seconds.

Bayu Irfansyah Putra, General Manager of ITS Sapuangin Team, highlighted how the competition’s carbon footprint reduction category inspired their journey towards creating an eco-friendly end product. Guided by Dr. Ir. Wityanto MEngSc, the team exhibited exceptional prowess, securing their spot in the next competition stage at DWC 2023. Bayu expressed optimism, aspiring to return to the global stage with their finest innovations, aiming for better results in forthcoming endeavors.

Securing 3rd place in the fastest urban car category not only showcases speed superiority but also emphasizes fuel efficiency. This accomplishment stands as a testament to their dedication, hard work, and innovative spirit in fashioning environmentally conscious solutions. In doing so, they serve not only as an inspiration for the current generation but also carve out a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future.
