Congratulations and success to Prof. Dr. Eng. Chastine Fatichah, S.Kom., M.Kom who has been officially inaugurated as one of the Professors of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology. This inauguration was held on May 10, 2023, in the hall of the ITS Research Center building. Together with the other five professor candidates, Prof. Chastine was symbolically confirmed by the Chairperson of the ITS Professors Council, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Robandi M.T., and witnessed by ITS Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ir. Ir. Mochammad Ashari, M.Eng., IPU, A.Eng.
Professor is the highest functional position that can be achieved by someone in the world of education. Professors are also someone whose presence is awaited by the community with their roles as educators and researchers, bringing contributions with their knowledge. Dozens or even hundreds of research, experiences, and services that have been carried out have led a Professor to become a representative of progress in the scientific field.
On this occasion, the six prospective Professors were asked to make presentations or what is called Scientific Orations related to the field of study being studied. Therefore, the audience and the public who witnessed this inauguration could find out about the field of study presented. Prof. Chastine herself delivered a scientific oration entitled Generative AI: Techniques, Roles, and Challenges. He said that the field of study being studied was indeed the science of AI or Artificial Intelligence. Generative AI is a topic as well as a technology that is currently booming and often becomes a byword for its sophistication. He wanted to discuss what exactly the technology behind AI is as well as its role and challenges today.
Prof. Chastine, who currently serves as Head of the Informatics Engineering Department, admitted that he received a Professorial Decree on December 1, 2022, however, he still wanted to add to his scientific research before being officially confirmed as a Professor. Officially graduating from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2012, he received an offer to study in Japan from one of his professors during his master’s degree at the University of Indonesia. Not only that, but his departure to Japan also received a scholarship from the Indonesian government. An alumnus of ITS Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Prof. Chastine returned to the service of the lofty mother.
