Surabaya, ELECTICS ITSThe Faculty of Electrical Technology and Intelligent Informatics (F-ELECTICS) of Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), through its Department of Electrical Engineering, has recently marked a significant milestone in strengthening the synergy between academia and industry. A team from ITS Electrical Engineering had the special opportunity to visit the Siemens Indonesia factory in Jakarta. This visit was a crucial part of the EmpowerED U project, an initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of engineering education in Indonesia through strategic partnerships.

During this highly productive visit, the participants were treated to an invaluable immersive experience. They had the chance to directly witness the Internal Testing of the RCP SAS, assembled using Siemens’ latest technology, providing a real-world illustration of how theoretical knowledge learned in lectures is implemented in industrial practice. Not only that, but the team also participated in practical simulations specifically designed for student training in SCADA, Monitoring, and Power System Protection. The practical curriculum derived from this experience is planned to be integrated into the Field Courses within the S1 Electrical Engineering study program, ensuring that the material taught is always relevant and applicable. This experience was complemented by a factory tour that took participants through various vital areas of the Siemens plant, from assembly and wiring processes to final testing, providing a comprehensive understanding of the quality and efficiency standards applied on a global scale.

This activity clearly underscores ELECTICS ITS’s commitment to delivering engineering education that is not only theoretical but also highly relevant to industry needs. This collaboration with Siemens Indonesia represents a tangible step in bridging the gap between the academic environment and professional practice, while preparing graduates who are ready to compete in an increasingly competitive job market. As a follow-up to this successful visit, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) are planned to be signed in August or September. Furthermore, this partnership will be enriched by a guest lecture with the CEO of PT Siemens Indonesia, expected to provide inspiring and valuable insights directly from a leading industry figure.

In-depth discussions with the Head of Business Unit Siemens Indonesia during the visit also opened new opportunities to design similar programs in other ELECTICS study programs, for instance, on the increasingly critical issue of cybersecurity. This demonstrates ELECTICS ITS’s vision to continuously innovate and expand the scope of collaboration for the advancement of education across various fields. The highest appreciation is extended to Department Head Ronny, REIDI PIC Dedet, Curriculum Development Team Leader Prof. Roni Seto, and Mr. Dimas Fajar Uman for their dedication and hard work in realizing this highly beneficial visit. Through strategic collaboration with leading industry partners like Siemens, ELECTICS ITS remains committed to producing excellent engineers who are not only competent but also ready to face future challenges and make real contributions to the nation’s progress.
