Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS – Rivera Team from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has brought pride to their alma mater by securing 1st place in the 2025 ABU Indonesia Robot Contest (KRAI). This remarkable achievement will see them representing Indonesia at the ABU Robocon International to be held in Mongolia this August.
The team leader, Hafiedz, expressed his pride in their accomplishment. “It’s truly an honor to bring glory to ITS and ELECTICS at the national level. Alhamdulillah, we succeeded in winning 1st place and will now move on to the international stage,” he said.
Rivera is the name of the team representing ITS Robocon, the ITS robotics unit that regularly participates in the KRI and ABU Robocon competitions. The name Rivera itself stands for Robotika ITS Victoria Era in Mongolia, reflecting their hope to achieve victory at this year’s international event.
The theme for KRAI 2025 was a robot basketball game, where each team had to present two robots capable of working together to score points. Rivera fielded Kuroko and Kagami, two robots inspired by characters from the anime Kuroko no Basket. Kuroko was designed to autonomously dribble, pass, block, and shoot, while Kagami specialized in receiving passes and completing shots at the hoop. Rivera’s technical edge came from their use of swerve drive technology, which made their robots faster and more agile than those of other teams, as well as a slider-based shooting mechanism that offered greater stability and fewer errors. “Our mechanism is more stable and has a lower potential for error compared to the systems used by other teams,” Hafiedz explained.

Rivera’s preparations began as soon as the theme was announced after last year’s ABU Robocon. For nearly a year, the team went through a process of analyzing the guidebook, designing, testing, and simulating matches. Their consistent practice paid off: Rivera became the only team capable of completing all tasks and winning every match.
The involvement of students from various study programs within ELECTICS ITS was another strength, including Putri from the Information Systems program.
“After all the preparations, we hope to give our very best as Indonesia’s representative at ABU Robocon 2025 in Mongolia and return home with the Grand Prix title,” she said.
With innovation, strong teamwork, and the support of the ITS academic community, Rivera is optimistic about repeating their success on the international stage and bringing honor to Indonesia in the global arena.
