Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS – Behind the enthusiasm of students in pursuing academic achievements, there is another side that is often overlooked mental health. Anxiety about university life, the pressure to adapt, and worries about the future often become invisible burdens. Realizing the importance of this, the ITS Department of Information Technology (IT) took concrete action by conducting a psychological assessment on Monday, September 8, 2025, at Tower 2 ITS. This activity was not merely a formality, but part of a series of programs designed to maintain a balance between life and study, ensuring that students can experience their academic journey in a healthier and happier way.

Head of the ITS Department of Information Technology, Dr.techn. Ir. Raden Venantius Hari Ginardi, M.Sc, stated that today’s generation of students is increasingly aware of the importance of both physical and mental health. If physical health is already secured through BPJS, then mental health also needs structured attention through proper measurement. Therefore, the assessment was carried out to map the levels of stress, depression, and anxiety among students, so that the department has a foundation for designing more targeted follow-up programs. The activity involved three main parties: IT as the initiator, ITS Medical Center which provided psychologists, and IKOMA which gave full support.

From the initial assessment, an interesting finding emerged: new students actually experienced higher levels of anxiety compared to senior students. This finding received special attention since new students are often assumed to be in a fresh condition, when in fact they are still in the adaptation phase and filled with concerns about their major and courses. Responding to this, IT plans to introduce more welcoming programs for new students, such as music clubs, culinary activities, and other recreational events that can help them adapt while reducing anxiety.

Furthermore, Mr. Hari hopes that this assessment will not only remain within the department but can also develop into a pilot project at the faculty level and eventually throughout ITS. With routine implementation at the beginning and end of each semester, ITS is expected to map students’ conditions comprehensively and provide appropriate follow-up actions. The greater hope is that ITS can become a campus that not only ensures physical health but also pays close attention to the mental health of students, lecturers, and academic staff, thereby creating a healthier, more harmonious, and happier academic environment.
