Surabaya, ELECTICS ITS –The Faculty of Intelligent Electrical and Informatics Technology (ELECTICS), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), kicked off the new semester by holding a sharing session entitled New Semester, New Stories, Big Steps for Generation Z. The event, which took place on Friday (August 22) at the Tower 2 Auditorium, 2nd Floor, featured three speakers who discussed important issues related to mental health, character development, and the dynamics of Generation Z in the campus environment.

This activity was mainly aimed at ELECTICS lecturers and academic staff to better understand students, the majority of whom are from Generation Z. Through this forum, it is expected that a shared understanding can be built regarding the mindset, challenges, and great potential of Generation Z, who now dominate university classrooms.

Three speakers presented their perspectives. The first, Prida Novarita Trisanti, S.T., M.T., from the Legal Services and Strategic Issues Handling Unit (ULHPIS), introduced the role of the ITS Center for Violence Prevention (PPK). She emphasized the strong link between mental health and acts of violence that still occur in the campus environment.

“Hopefully, sharing sessions like this are not only about handling cases but also about prevention. By understanding mental health, we can work together to reduce the potential for violence at ITS,” Prida stated.

Next, Fatimatuzzakiyah, S.Psi., from the ITS Medical Center, delivered a session on Generation Z’s Mental Health: Perspectives, Challenges, and Handling. She appreciated the positive response from the lecturers, which she noted was different from similar forums elsewhere.

“Usually, we are accused of merely defending Generation Z, of pampering them. But here, the lecturers showed full support. I hope this positive response will be followed by concrete and sustainable actions,” said Zakiya.

The final session featured Dr.rer.nat. Nasori, S.Si., M.Si., from the ITS Directorate of Student Affairs. He highlighted the importance of synergy among various parties in developing student character.

“We cannot work alone. The Directorate, faculties, departments, and student associations must all be aware of and move together. With continuous collaboration, our big goals of a Golden ITS and a Golden Indonesia can be achieved more quickly,” he explained.

The three-hour event left a strong impression on the participants. In addition to serving as a reflection space on the condition of Generation Z students, the forum also reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among lecturers, faculties, and students in creating a healthy, inclusive, and productive learning environment.
