Every year in a row, students and academics succeed in making achievements to make the names of departments, faculties and institutes uplifting. In 2016, ITS Material and Metallurgical Engineering students managed to become finalists and gold, silver and bronze medalists in the IYIA race and won 1st place in CIIC. The following is a list of awards or achievements achieved by students and the academic community of the Department of Material and Metallurgical Engineering, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, both at national and international levels:
DTMM ITS Lecturer Wins Best Paper Award at TMS 2026 International Conference
Surabaya — Another proud achievement has been made by a lecturer from the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (DTMM), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS). Dian Mughni Fellicia, S.T., M.Sc., has been awarded the prestigious EPD/LMD Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy Best Paper Award by The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society.
The award was granted in recognition of her outstanding scientific contribution through the publication titled “Hydrogen Plasma for Low-Carbon Extractive Metallurgy: Oxides Reduction, Metals Refining, and Wastes Processing”, published in the Journal of Sustainable Metallurgy. The paper was highly regarded for offering innovative solutions to sustainability challenges in the metallurgical industry, particularly in reducing carbon emissions.
The award was officially presented at the TMS 2026 Annual Meeting & Exhibition held in San Diego. This event is one of the most prestigious international forums in the field of materials science and metallurgy, bringing together academics, researchers, and industry professionals from around the world.
In her research, Dian highlights the use of hydrogen plasma technology as an innovative approach to enable more environmentally friendly metal extraction processes. This technology shows significant potential in reducing carbon emissions, particularly in oxide reduction, metal refining, and metallurgical waste processing.
This achievement not only brings pride to DTMM ITS but also strengthens ITS’s position as a higher education institution actively contributing to global research in sustainable energy and materials. It is expected that similar research efforts will continue to grow, supporting the transition toward greener and more sustainable industries in Indonesia and beyond.
