As part of the initiative “Strengthening Quality Infrastructure to Support the National Circular Economy and Waste Management in Indonesia, with a Focus on Plastics/Packaging (QI4CE),” representatives from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)—Germany’s National Metrology Institute—visited the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure and Environment Studies at ITS (led by Prof. I.D.A.A. Warmadewanthi) and the ITS Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 09:30 to 14:00.
This visit was part of an exploratory mission to prepare for a new German-Indonesian cooperation project, which will be jointly implemented by the National Standardization Agency of Indonesia (BSN) and PTB.
The visit aimed to examine circular economy initiatives for plastics and packaging in Surabaya, as well as current testing and research activities in the field of plastic packaging and polymers. The delegation from PTB and the plastics institute was represented by Katharina Prammer. During the visit, the PTB and BSN delegates toured the Material Innovation Laboratory to observe research on polymers, plastics, and polymer composites, including biodegradable packaging plastics. Also showcased was “Benwit” (Gasoline from Palm Oil)—a flagship ITS product resulting from research led by Prof. Hosta Ardhyananta. Subsequently, the PTB and BSN delegates inspected the Material Characterization division to view the equipment used for material characterization testing.
