A follow-up meeting on collaboration between the ITS Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (DTMM ITS) and PT Komatsu Remanufacturing Asia took place at the headquarters and main factory in Balikpapan. Welcomed by the President Director of PT Komastu Remanufacturing Asia, Mr. Nasihin, the DTMM ITS delegation, led by the Head of the Department, Sutarsis, outlined the potential for collaboration in postgraduate education and research through industrial grants funded by the government or endowment fund managers such as the LPDP.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Postgraduate Study Program, Azzah Diah Pramata, presented the distance learning master’s and doctoral programs, with a curriculum tailored to the development needs of PT Komatsu Reman’s experts.
Welcoming the presentation by the DTMM ITS team, Komatsu Reman President Director Nasihin expressed his enthusiasm for the collaborative programs offered by DTMM ITS. He emphasized during the discussion that PT Komatsu needs partners in developing human resources with expertise in Manufacturing Metallurgy. Furthermore, Mr. Nasihin also stated that Komatsu Reman needs partners in product development through research, patent applications, and publication of innovations. PT Komatsu Reman hopes this collaboration will enhance the institutional and human resource capacity of both parties.
As part of its near-term human resource development efforts, PT Komatsu Reman proposed a thematic training program in scientific writing and metallurgy, with a focus on material failure analysis and NDT, as presented by Mr. Hendy, Human Capital Manager, and Mr. Ariza, Quality Control Manager.
During this visit, the DTMM ITS team was given the opportunity to observe the remanufacturing process, from disassembling used machinery and assessing the technical feasibility of components to testing the reliability of remanufactured machinery. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to hold a technical meeting soon to discuss thematic training and manufacturing metallurgy research. DTMM ITS will be represented by Haryati Purwaningsih and Prof. Agung Purniawan as the PIC of the collaboration.
