Scientific Writing and Peer Review: Building Strong Research Foundations

Surabaya, November 19, 2025 – The Department of Mechanical and Material Engineering (DTMM) successfully held a Guest Lecture Series focused on strengthening scientific writing and publication skills. This event is a strategic initiative to improve the quality of research outputs in the academic environment.

The activity held in Room MT 204 DTMM on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, focused on the main topic “Scientific Writing and Peer Review: Building Strong Research Foundations.”

Focus on Material and Application of Global Publication Standards
This guest lecture session specifically featured Dr. Hussin Mamat as the main speaker. The material presented covered crucial aspects of scientific publication, namely:

– Writing scientific articles using the standard IMRAD (Introduction, Method, Result, and Discussion) structure.

– Techniques for effectively writing abstracts, results, discussions, and conclusions.

Citation management using Mendeley/Zotero software by implementing the IEEE/APA style.

The peer review process and academic feedback serve as vital instruments in improving the quality of writing.

The main objective of this activity is to equip participants with practical knowledge and skills to produce scientific manuscripts that meet international publication standards.

The Urgency of Improving Research Quality and Academic Engagement
This Guest Lecture Series activity is considered highly urgent to be delivered and disseminated. The fundamental reason for its implementation is to strengthen the research foundation, promote a positive research culture, and directly enhance the quality of scientific publications at DTMM.

Dr. Hussin Mamat stated that mastery of systematic scientific writing techniques is an absolute prerequisite for the development of an academic career and contributions to knowledge.

“Scientific writing skills and a deep understanding of peer review are key elements in transforming research results into globally recognized contributions,” emphasized Dr. Hussin Mamat.

This activity involves the active participation of the entire DTMM academic community, including undergraduate and graduate students as well as research lecturers, reaffirming the department’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources in the field of research.
