Department of Business Statistics. DSB Berita – Another brilliant achievement to be proud of was made by one of the graduates of the Department of Business Statistics. Maria Ulfa Yanuar, S.Tr, Stat, succeeded in achieving the achievement of being the Best Graduate of the Vocational Faculty – ITS at the 128th Graduation which was held on Saturday 23 September 2023 at Graha 10 November ITS. Maria prepared her final assignment in the field of natural disaster insurance with the title “Analysis of the Risk of Losses Due to Natural Disasters Using Value at Risk with an Extreme Value Theory Approach”.

While active as a student at the Department of Business Statistics, Maria also often won several competitions including Favorite Champion in the 2021 Economic Fair Infographics Contest, 2nd Place in the 2021 Economic Fair National Scientific Writing Competition, 1st Place in the 2022 EXPOS Essay Competition, 2nd Place at the 2022 SMATIC National Statistics Olympiad, 2022 ITS Applied Bachelor’s Mawapres Finalist, and several other championships.
Nevertheless, Maria’s struggle was actually not easy to set foot on this Heroes Campus. Maria revealed that she was rejected six times by various state universities before finally being accepted as a student at the Department of Business Statistics. “I prayed that my failure would be rewarded with success and it was granted,”-Maria.
Her journey as a student in the Department of Business Statistics was not enough just to take part in various competitions in both academic and non-academic fields. Maria also developed her skills in the fields of data analysis and risk management through a virtual big data analytics internship at PT Kimia Farma. Not only that, Maria also interned at PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya as a Commercial and Business Development Officer. During her internship, Maria studied the business processes of a container terminal operator company. Her internship at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, the largest container terminal company in Indonesia is proof of her enthusiasm to continue to develop. Maria admitted that her four months of experience at PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya gave her a lot of experience and skills in the world of work. Graduating from ITS with honors and gaining a wealth of experience opened up Maria’s hopes for a career in data analytics, especially in the logistics industry. Maria is optimistic about pursuing a career that suits her potential and interests.
