November 2, 2025 – As part of the Guest Lectures and Seminars under the Inbound Research Mobility program, the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (DTMM), Faculty of Engineering, hosted Prof. Atsuki Iizuka, Ph.D., as a speaker in an online lecture held on October 29–30, 2025 via Zoom Meeting.

The program aims to broaden academic perspectives and strengthen international research collaboration, particularly in material management, recycling, and mineral carbonation technologies. In this session, Prof. Iizuka presented the concepts and applications of the latest technologies in separating and repurposing industrial waste materials that have the potential to become new resources.

“Through the mineral carbonation process, we can transform waste into valuable materials while reducing carbon emissions. The principle is not merely to discard waste, but to reuse it efficiently through a scientific approach,” Prof. Iizuka explained.

He further elaborated that research in mineral carbonation offers an innovative solution to global environmental challenges. The process enables the conversion of carbon dioxide gas into stable mineral compounds, which can subsequently be reused in various industrial material applications.

Prof. Iizuka also emphasized the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in developing environmentally friendly technologies, highlighting that the synergy between materials engineering, chemistry, and energy is key to successful research. Participants, including students, faculty, and young researchers, actively engaged in discussions about the potential implementation of these methods within the national industrial context.

This event demonstrates DTMM’s commitment to strengthening international academic networks and promoting sustainable research in material processing and environmental impact mitigation. Through scientific forums like this, it is expected that collaborations between universities and global researchers will continue to generate practical solutions for future energy and environmental challenges.
