In 2004, the Department of Naval Architect opened the field of marine transportation studies in an effort to establish a marine Transportation Department independently. This effort began with the preparation of a special curriculum in the field of marine transportation in addition to the Naval Architect curriculum itself. Therefore, since 2004 the Naval Architect Department applies 2 (two) curricula, namely:

1. Naval Architect Curriculum for fields other than Marine Transportation, where students make a selection of study fields in semester VII.
2. Naval Architect Curriculum in the field of marine transportation studies, where students make a selection of fields of study in the third semester.
   Thus, Naval Architect students who in 2004 were in the third semester (students of class 2003) and chose the field of marine transportation studies, had followed a special curriculum in sea transportation.

In 2011, the field of marine transportation studies officially stood as a Department and was permitted to accept its own students for the 2011/2012. The curriculum used is the same as the curriculum used when it is still under the Naval Architect Department (2009-2014). Since 2014 until now there is a stand-alone curriculum and is valid until 2019.
