Campus ITS, ITS News – The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), through the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (DTMM), Faculty of Industrial Technology and Systems Engineering (FTIRS), successfully held a Workshop on Improving the Quality of 3D Printing Products. The program, which is part of the Community Service (Abmas) initiative, took place on 29–30 October 2025 in collaboration with industry partner PT Tridiku Teknokarya Indonesia.
Held in the MT 204 Meeting Room and the Manufacturing Metallurgy Laboratory at ITS, the workshop focused on addressing key challenges in additive manufacturing (3D printing), such as surface quality, dimensional accuracy, and mechanical strength. While 3D printing has rapidly advanced as a modern manufacturing method, product quality remains a major obstacle, especially for small and medium industries.
DTMM ITS lecturer and Abmas team member Dr. Eng. Hosta Ardhyananta ST MEng emphasized the importance of this collaboration. He stated that the partnership is a significant step toward strengthening the 3D printing ecosystem in Indonesia. “ITS aims to support industry practitioners in understanding material and technical aspects so that the products they produce can achieve better quality,” he explained.
This two-day activity was designed to strengthen synergy between academia and industry while serving as a platform for knowledge exchange. The program included in-depth technical sessions on polymer materials, post-processing methods, and practical applications of 3D printing, delivered by Hosta Ardhyananta together with Alvian Toto Wibisono ST MT PhD as the activity coordinator. Participants also engaged in hands-on laboratory practice and interactive discussions with the industry partner.
Alvian expressed his hopes that the workshop would foster continuous collaboration in research and development of 3D printing technologies. “We hope this activity becomes an initial step in creating sustainable innovation in 3D printing that can bring real impact to society and the industrial sector,” he said.
The workshop involved lecturers, education staff, students, and representatives from PT Tridiku Teknokarya Indonesia, aiming to broaden participants’ understanding of the opportunities for applying additive manufacturing technology across various sectors, including the creative industry, education, and engineering.
Through this activity, ITS reaffirms its commitment to actively supporting advancements in research-based manufacturing technology and industrial collaboration. The 3D Printing Workshop directly contributes to achieving several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education; Goal 9 on Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure; and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
