DTMM ITS Establishes Strategic Collaboration with Komatsu to Strengthen Research and Product Development

Surabaya, 27 November 2025 — The Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (DTMM) at the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) has officially established a strategic collaboration with PT Komatsu Indonesia through the signing of a cooperation agreement in the fields of education, research, and community service. The agreement was signed by the Head of the DTMM Department, Sutarsis, ST., MT., Ph.D., and Hendy Nugroho, Human Capital & Finance General Manager of Komatsu, during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) between ITS and Komatsu.

This collaboration marks an important momentum for both institutions in strengthening synergy for the advancement of science and technology, particularly in materials and metallurgical engineering. Through this partnership, ITS and Komatsu are committed to creating innovative, applicable research as well as enhancing human resource competencies to meet industrial demands.

The Head of the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering, Sutarsis, ST., MT., Ph.D., and Hendy Nugroho, Human Capital & Finance General Manager of Komatsu, signed a collaboration agreement in the fields of education, research, and community service.

“This collaboration opens up significant opportunities for developing material technologies that support improving industrial product quality, while also providing strong research experiences for our academic community,” stated Sutarsis in his remarks.

The scope of the cooperation includes:

  • Organizing education, research, and community service programs in materials and metallurgical engineering.

  • Conducting science and technology-based education and training, especially related to materials and metallurgical engineering, including joint research activities to improve industrial product quality.

  • Human resource development for both institutions — lecturers, students, and Komatsu professionals — through jointly agreed programs.

  • Joint scientific publications in reputable academic and public media, both national and international.

  • Leveraging mutual benefits from excellence in education, research, and sustainable development carried out by both parties.

Through this partnership, ITS aims to expand industrial collaborations to strengthen research downstreaming. Meanwhile, Komatsu sees great potential in gaining scientific support and the latest innovations from the academic environment at ITS.

The ITS–Komatsu collaboration is expected to serve as a concrete step in enhancing national industrial competitiveness through sustainable academic–industry synergy.
