The Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia will hold the 40th Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) in 2025 (https://www.tradexpoindonesia.com) at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City, Tangerang Regency, Banten. The event will last five days, from October 15-19, 2025. At the opening ceremony on Wednesday (10/15/2025), Minister of Trade Dr. Budi Santoso, M.Si., stated that the event was attended by 8,045 buyers from 130 countries and approximately 1,619 participants.
The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) and the Bogor Agricultural University (IPB), under the auspices of the Directorate General of Research and Development, Ministry of Education and Technology, were invited to participate in the national defense strategic industry cluster, Hall 5, Booth 5-79. Defense industries such as PT. Pindad, Komodo Armament, and Venamon are also in the same cluster. This event aims to bring together innovators, partner industries, and national and international consumers. It is hoped that the innovative products on display can be traded on the global market.
ITS researchers, through the Defense Technology Study Center (DRPM), showcased several products they have developed, some of which have been commercialized, such as the Automorse, a warship communication device, with PT. Radar Teknologi Indonesia (RTI), Frangible Bullets and Armor with PT. Pindad, Double Base Propellant with PT. Dahana, Anti-radar Composites with PT. Lundin Industry Invest, and Cellulose Nitrate and Nitroglycerin. In line with the Impactful Diktisaintek slogan, every research result must be commercialized, one of which is impacting economic growth.
Siti Syahda Humaira and Inzus Etika Sari, two postgraduate students from the Department of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering ITS involved in this research, had the opportunity to present various innovative products to the Minister of Trade. They explained product specifications, the innovation process, the product’s Technology Readiness Level (TKT), valuation, and the downstreaming process with industrial partners as producers. The Minister of Trade expressed his appreciation and encouraged more innovative products from ITS campuses to be commercialized and enter the global market. Syahda and Inzus were delighted to have the opportunity and experience of meeting ministers, ambassadors, industrial partners and visitors from various countries as well as having the opportunity to tour around and see other trade products at this event.
One of the visitors from the Indonesian embassy in Nairobi also invited the ITS team to join INDONEX (Indonesia Nairobi Expo) next year in 2026. The developed innovation products can be introduced more widely because in Nairobi there is the United Nations office (UNON), which has been the main UN office in Africa since 1996. UNON is the representative of the UN Secretary General in Kenya and one of the four main UN office sites in the world. Another visitor from the industry, namely PT. Komodo Armamet also invited collaboration for the development of ammunition and bullet propellants. The next visitor from the industry also invited the development of ARMITS (ITS armor jacket) but for civilian applications such as motorcyclists and security units. These various innovations were developed to support SDG 9, namely achieving inclusive economic growth through sustainable industrial development, innovation and infrastructure. Full support from partner industries and funding from LPDP, GRS BPDKS and HETI ADB from various commercialization schemes are important aspects of this joint achievement (MFA).
