A guest lecture titled “The Untold Secret of Data Science” highlighted the realities behind the data science profession that are often overlooked. In the presentation, speaker Dhany Saputra explained that the field of data science is frequently misunderstood as being solely about advanced algorithms, artificial intelligence, or complex machine learning models.

According to the speaker, the reality in the industry is quite different. A large portion of a data scientist’s work is actually focused on preparing and cleaning data before any analysis or modeling can take place. Raw data collected from various sources is often incomplete, inconsistent, or unstructured, making the preparation process a crucial step in any data science project.

During the session, Dhany emphasized that technical skills alone are not enough to succeed in the field. Understanding business needs and the context of a problem is equally important. Without this understanding, even the most sophisticated analysis may fail to produce useful insights for organizations.

The lecture also discussed how data science is an interdisciplinary field that combines statistics, programming, and domain knowledge. As organizations across industries increasingly rely on data-driven decisions, the demand for professionals who can analyze and interpret data continues to grow.

Through the guest lecture, participants were encouraged to develop not only their technical abilities but also their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. By understanding the true nature of the work involved, aspiring data scientists can better prepare themselves for the challenges and opportunities in this rapidly evolving field.
