Surabaya – The Informatics Engineering Department, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), has once again introduced an innovation in learning through a Capstone Project course based on real-world industrial case studies. This course is designed to bridge students’ academic competencies with real-world needs in the professional world.
The Capstone Project involves various industry partners who present actual problems as case studies. Students work in teams to analyze needs, design solutions, implement systems, and conduct evaluations based on industry standards. With this approach, students hone not only technical skills but also managerial, communication, and cross-disciplinary collaboration skills. The partners involved include: PT Sentra Vidya Utama (SEVIMA), PT Traspac Makmur Sejahtera, the Financial Services Authority (OJK), PT Petrokimia Gresik (PT Pupuk Indonesia Persero Group), the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) Yogyakarta, UNIO Indonesia Maju, Cohesive Indonesia, PT Digdaya Olah Teknologi Indonesia (DOT Indonesia), PT Semen Indonesia Logistik (SILOG), Bank Jatim, the Directorate of Technology and Information Systems at ITS, and InvestIdea.
The advantage of this course is the direct mentoring system by mentors from industry partners and experts from the ITS Informatics Engineering Department. This collaboration aims to ensure that the solutions developed by students are relevant in both practical and academic terms. The mentoring process is carried out intensively through regular consultation sessions, progress reviews, and final project evaluations. The Capstone Project lecture model is a manifestation of the implementation of outcome-based learning (Outcome-Based Education/OBE), which emphasizes the achievement of real competencies and graduates’ work readiness. Through the Capstone Project in collaboration with industry, the ITS Informatics Engineering Department affirms its commitment to preparing graduates who are not only academically superior, but also ready to face the challenges of solving various real problems in the industrial world.
