Academic Writing Center

1. Custom Workshop

Custom Workshop is an initiative that allows instructors to integrate a maximum of two AWC workshops specifically into the curriculum of the classes you teach. The workshop topics we offer and can be chosen according to the class’s needs are:

  • The pre-writing tips
  • Identifying Research Gap
  • Avoiding Plagiarism by Summarizing, paraphrasing, and citing
  • Avoiding Rejection by Editing and Proofreading
  • AI Tools for Academic Writing
  • Improving Flow and Connectedness
  • Elevating Academic Argument
  • Avoiding Plagiarism
  • Reading for Novelty

When the workshop is integrated into the course, the AWC facilitator and lecturer will create an assignment or quiz that students must complete and submit after the workshop concludes. AWC will provide materials, guidelines, and other supportive resources to ensure the smooth implementation of the workshop within the curriculum. Lecturers are encouraged to identify topics that align with the class’s needs and register at the link https://bit.ly/IntegrasiMatkul-AWC before March 5, 2024.

The technical procedures involves:

  • Class lecturer will sign up for the custom workshop and select the required topics.
  • The AWC team and lecturers will discuss the workshop’s time/date.
  • The AWC team, facilitator, and class lecturers will discuss the quiz/project for the workshop.
  • AWC facilitator will conduct the class (either online or onsite).
  • Students will submit assignments or take quizzes after the workshop.

2. One-on-one Class Integration

The integration of the “one-on-one consultation” program is an AWC initiative aimed at assisting lecturers in providing guidance to each student in the class, either individually or in groups, on academic writing issues that might not be extensively covered in the classroom. These issues could include problems related to the logical development of ideas, plagiarism, argumentation, citation, flow of ideas, or the reader’s perspective. By participating in this program, students will be required by their lecturers to engage in at least two consultations with AWC tutors before submitting written assignments, which could be in the form of articles or academic essays. This tailored approach not only enhances understanding of the complexities of academic writing but also helps students develop crucial skills essential for both academic and professional success beyond the classroom.

The technical procedures involves:

  • Class lecturers signing up for the integration of the “one-on-one consultation” program.
  • Lecturers and AWC collaborating on the “writing prompt” for students (context, task requirements, audience and purpose, steps to complete the task, and evaluation criteria).
  • Lecturers announcing the writing task or “writing prompt” to students.
  • Students working to complete the given task.
  • Students registering for “one-on-one consultation” at least twice (either individually or in groups).
  • AWC tutors provide attendance reports of students to the lecturers.
