Rekayasa Fotonika

Kelompok Bidang Keilmuan Rekayasa Fotonika merupakan cabang bidang rekayasa, yang berkaitan dengan penerapan prinsip-prinsip keilmuan Optika dalam mengembangkan suatu sistem optik / fotonik terintegrasi, untuk penggunaan pada berbagai keperluan sehari-hari.

Sistem optik / fotonik ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk berbagai keperluan monitoring proses industri, sistem pertahanan / militer, aplikasi diagnostik dan terapeutik dalam  bidang medis / pelayanan kesehatan, serta penggunaan pada bidang pertanian dan peternakan untuk pemastian kualitas dan keaslian produk pengolahan hasil pertanian / peternakan.

Suatu sistem optik / fotonik yang terintegrasi, secara umum dibangun dan tersusun atas sumber cahaya, berbagai komponen optik untuk keperluan manipulasi dan pengolah berkas  sinar cahaya optis, serta detektor optis. Suatu sistem akuisisi data dan kontrol elektronik biasanya digunakan sebagai komponen tambahan.

Penggunaan cahaya sebagai komponen gelombang EM memberikan berbagai keuntungan terkait akurasi, presisi, kemudahan penguuran non kontak, serta ketahanan terhadap berbagai gangguan interferensi dalam proses penggunaannya.

Peran penting cahaya optis dalam kehidupan keseharian manusia telah terbukti sangat signifikan, meski kebanyakan masyarakat tidak terlalu menyadarinya. UNESCO pada tahun 2015 telah menyelenggarakan peringatan INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF LIGHT (IYL 2015), sebagai bentuk pengakuan atas pentingnya upaya meningkatkan kesadaran global akan pentingnya teknologi cahaya dalam memajukan perkembangan yang berkesinambungan serta solusi atas tantangan global atas berbagai masalah dalam bidang energi, pendidikan, pertanian, dan kesehatan (c.f. https://www.light2015.org/).

Sebagai kelanjutan suksesnya pencanangan IYL 2015, maka UNESCO kemudian menetapkan tanggal 16 Mei sebagai  peringatan Hari Cahaya Internasional (International Day of Light – IDL). Tanggal 16 Mei ini dipilih sebagai hari dimana diumumkannya secara resmi penemuan sumber cahaya Laser oleh Theodore Maiman   pada tahun 1960. Penemuan cahaya Laser ini telah terbukti  mampu merevolusi perkembangan bidang teknologi berbasis cahaya (light-based technologies), yang sangat membantu dalam penyelesaian berbagai masalah dalam kehidupan masyarakat modern (c.f. https://www.lightday.org/)

Penelitian dalam Laboratorium Rekayasa Fotonika dapat dikelompokkan ke dalam lima (5)  klaster kelompok penelitian sebagai berikut:

  1. Sensor Optis (berbasis Fiber & Non-Fiber)
  2. Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (multispectral / hyperspectral) untuk berbagai aplikasi Medis dan Pertanian
  3. Karakterisasi dan analisa karakteristik material bio dengan metoda pengukuran multi-modal spektroskopi (UV-VIS Absorption, LIBS, FTIR, dan Raman)
  4. Pengukuran dimensional & Profiling Permukaan Objek Secara Non-Kontak
  5. Simulasi & Komputasi Optis

Berbagai kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat dilakukan laboratorium rekayasa fotonika melalui OSA-SPIE Student Chapter ITS, dimana pendaan diperoleh dari organisasi pusat OSA dan SPIE, diantaranya:

  3. 2019, Pelatihan Pembelajaran Optik Berbasis Daring untuk para Guru IPA tingkat SMA, SMK, dan MA dalam rangka Peringatan International Day of Light (IDL 2019)
  4. 2018, Workshop Optik dan Fotonik, dalam rangka inaugurasi (pencanangan) International Day of Light (IDL 2018)
  5. 2017, Pelatihan Laser Safety Untuk Pengguna Sistem Laser Pada Bidang Kesehatan dan Kosmetik.

    • Karakterisasi Material Bio dengan berbagai teknik Pengukuran Spektroskopi (DOS, LIBS, FITR, dan Raman)
    • Rancang Bangun Sistem Optik untuk berbagai keperluan pengukuran dan monitoring di Industri dan Medis
    • Rancang Bangun Sistem Pemrosesan Citra Digital  dan Pengenalan Pola untuk berbagai keperluan pengenalan (morfologi, temperatur, spektral)
