Surabaya, July 8, 2026 – Even though it’s the middle of the summer break, the ITS Library remains bustling with various activities. On Wednesday (July 8), the ITS Library hosted three consecutive literacy visits from the Dilli Institute of Technology (DIT), the Community Service Program (KKN) group based in Sawocangkring Village, and Surabaya Public Junior High School No. 9. These three visits aimed to broaden participants’ knowledge and provide hands-on experience regarding library management and the promotion of a culture of literacy.

The first visit began at 9:00 a.m. WIB with the Sawocangkring Village KKN Group, consisting of 3 village officials, 8 literacy cadres, 12 high school students, 5 college students, and 4 supervising faculty members. The group was welcomed by two librarians from the ITS Library in the Library Room. The event began with an opening ceremony, followed by a presentation on library services and an interactive library tour.

At around the same time, the ITS Library also hosted a visit from the Dilli Institute of Technology (DIT) in Timor-Leste, consisting of 99 students and 6 faculty members. Given the large number of participants, the opening ceremony was held in the ITS Library Seminar Room. The visit was also welcomed by the Secretary of the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Prof. Dr. Ir. Umi Laili Yuhana, S.Kom., M.Sc., who delivered a warm welcome to all participants.

After the opening session, the DIT delegation took part in an orientation on the library’s facilities and services before going on a library tour. During the tour, the students seemed enthusiastic as they explored various areas of the library, from the modern interior design to the available collections. The fifth floor, which houses the circulation collection, also caught their attention due to its comprehensive book collection.

One of the DIT students shared his impressions after the visit. “This library is amazing because the people here are so friendly. It’s also huge—I walked around until I got tired,” he said with a laugh. He added that the library’s atmosphere is very aesthetically pleasing and makes it a must-visit for anyone coming to the ITS campus.

At 1:00 p.m. WIB, the ITS Library once again welcomed a visit from Surabaya Public Junior High School No. 9, consisting of 50 students and 15 accompanying teachers. The event began with an opening ceremony in the Seminar Room, followed by a tour of the ITS Library’s facilities and services, as well as a discussion about the various literacy programs and activities that have been developed.

During the library tour, the students showed great enthusiasm by actively asking questions and sharing their impressions of the ITS Library’s facilities and atmosphere. The interactions that took place during the event reflected the participants’ strong interest in a culture of reading and in using the library as a comfortable and inspiring learning space.
