Surabaya, November 26, 2025 – The morning atmosphere at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) felt different for second-semester Industrial Engineering graduate students. Instead of going through their usual lecture routine, they spent their morning engaging in intensive information literacy activities with the ITS Library on Wednesday (11/26).

This activity, entitled “An Unusual Morning,” was specifically designed to strengthen the foundations of student research through two crucial topics: mastery of reference management software (Reference Manager) and an in-depth look at academic writing ethics (Ethics).

Effective Citation Management Strategies

In this session, the ITS Librarian Team encouraged participants to change their perspective on managing library resources. The use of Reference Manager was emphasized not only as a technical requirement, but also as an efficiency strategy to maintain consistency in citations in theses and dissertations that involve many references.

With mastery of this tool, students can compile bibliographies automatically and accurately, minimizing the risk of citation errors that often become obstacles in the final stages of writing.

Integrity as a Core Value

In addition to technical aspects, ethics was an important topic of discussion during the morning session. The ITS Library team emphasized the importance of building critical awareness regarding academic integrity. Students were reminded to always be honest when referencing other people’s ideas and to adhere to moral standards in research so that the credibility of their scientific work can be accounted for.

Through the guidance provided in this “Unusual Morning” program, the ITS Library hopes that Industrial Engineering graduate students will be better prepared to produce high-quality research that is administratively sound and ethically superior. (onemoreITS)
