Kumamoto University, Japan, Short-Term Exchange Program Postgraduate Fall Intake 2026

The Graduate School of Science and Technology (GSST), Kumamoto University, Japan, is pleased to announce the International Joint Education Program for Science and Technology (IJEP) Short-Term Exchange Program for postgraduate students from partner universities, including Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS).

Program Overview

  • Start of Program: 1 October 2026

  • Duration Options:

    • 6 months

    • 11 months

  • Host Institution: Kumamoto University, Japan

  • Target Applicants: Master’s and Doctoral students from ITS
  • University fees (entrance examination fee, admission and tuition fees) will be exempted. However, the students will be responsible for their own expenses, including travel expenses, accommodation costs and health care fees.
  •  JASSO Scholarship Available:

    Amount of scholarship: 80,000 yen per month
    *Participants have to take responsibility for the flight ticket, accommodation, food, health insurance and other living cost, etc.

Program Components

Participants will engage in a wide range of academic and cultural activities, including:

  • A research project in a GSST laboratory

  • Coursework, including “Current Science and Technology in Japan” (2 credits)

  • At least three classes related to environmental issues

  • A field trip

  • Midterm and final presentations

  • Final report submission

Eligibility

  • Active Master’s or Doctoral student at ITS (any batch)

  • Good academic standing

  • English proficiency (minimum scores):

    • TOEFL iBT: 71

    • TOEIC: 700

    • IELTS: 6.0

  6. Official English proficiency test result (TOEFL/TOEIC/IELTS)
