Essay Competition Winner
In July 2015, I was offered a Kemitraan Negara Berkembang (KNB) Scholarship to undertake my master’s program in Informatics, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology at ITS Surabaya, Indonesia. I landed in Jakarta in September 2015 and was warmly welcomed by staff from ITS International Office, who took me and my colleagues to the Campus the following day. As part of the program, I had to take the Indonesian language course for one year which was indeed required for me to succeed in my studies as well as engaging myself in various local community activities. I was given the opportunity to experience Indonesian culture as well as having trips to various well-known places while taking the Indonesian Language training. Before 2016, I had a dream. The dream was to be able to meaningfully contribute and positively affect my world round me at any given opportunity. I was constantly searching for conduits through which I would be able to actualize my dream. I used to spend hours online, reading newspapers, engaging friends and reading magazines all in a bid to look for scholarships to acquire more useful and contemporary knowledge and skills to make my dream a fruition. It was not until I got selected as part of staff exchange with Industrial Engineering Department at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember due to my systems engineering passion that I ever dreamt of studying at the Institute or studying outside my birth country. It turned out to be a life time opportunity that shaped my career, future and opened many opportunity doors (read more).
