The 4th series of Virtual Public Lettures (VPL) in Engineering Fields with the topic ‘Active Learning for STEM’ has been running smoothly on Saturday, 17 October 2020 at 08.00 AM (GMT+7). Rachmadian Wulandana presented the topic. He is an Indonesian diaspora who works at SUNY New Paltz, New York. He enthusiastically explained the presentation to the participants. This is illustrated through his smile while explaining the material.

In accordance with the VPL theme this time, Rachmadian Wulandana delivered material on STEM learning methods that can be applied by lecturers and teachers in their classes later. In addition to presentations, he also showed videos that were able to provide examples of how the STEM method can create a good learning atmosphere. Apart from that, Rachmadian Wulandana also briefly mentioned the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially the condition of SDGs in Indonesia. With interesting material supported by a relaxed style of delivery from him, it doesn’t feel like 1 hour of material delivery session has passed.

The event continued with a question and answer session. There are several interesting questions related to the STEM learning method, from how it is implemented in the classroom to the obstacles that may be faced. There was a small discussion about comparing the conditions of education in America and Indonesia. Rachmadian Wulandana conveyed the fact that in America itself there are still some areas with poor educational conditions, just like in Indonesia. All these questions were then answered well by Rachmadian Wulandana. To appreciate his participation in this event, the committee gave him a certificate of appreciation which unfortunately had to be delivered virtually.

This time the VPL was closed with a photo session with all participants, the committee, and speaker. Hopefully the knowledge that has been received by all participants can be shared and of course applied in life. If you haven’t had the opportunity to take part in the 4th VPL series, the recording of the event can be watched on the ITS Global Engagement youtube channel and if you are interested in taking part in the next VPL series, keep an eye on ITS Global Engagement social media.
