Day 1 – Sunday, 21 July 2019 Professors and participants from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thornburi (KMUTT) Thailand, Ritsumeikan University (RU) Japan, and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) arriving at Surabaya. Later in the night, Professors had dinner with ITS IO Management while participants had surround exploring dinner.
Day 2 – Monday, 22 July 2019 is the first day of Joint Workshop Global Engineer in Asia 2019. Before the workshop opened, there is a welcoming ceremony held in front of ITS Rectorate Building and continued by an opening speech by ITS Vice Rector.
After the welcoming ceremony there is an intruduction session about JWGEA 2019. Started by brief introduction of university involved in JWGEA 2019. Prof. Takamoto Itoh explain about RU Japan, Dr. Fauzan Khairi Che Harun explain about UTM Malaysia, Prof. Diew Koolpiruck explain about KMUTT Thailand, and Dr. Trika Pitana explain about ITS Indonesia.
Then Dr. Maria Anityasari S.T., M.E as a delegate from Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Surabaya gave a session about the overview of JWGEA program and followed by the group interaction. Dr. Maria encourage the participants to learn as much as possible from the program.
After the introduction session, Prof. Shizuyo Asai from Ritsumeikan University Japan and Prof. Dr. Lee Chew Tin from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia gave a Panel Presentation session about Becoming a Competitive and Happy Person.
After the lunch break, there are 2 personal development course. The first course consist of 3 topics, Dr. Fauzan Khairi Che Harun from UTM gave a session about “Self-Assessment”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Poj Tangamchit from KMUTT gave a session about “A 100-Life Year: A Gift or A Curse”, and Dr. Maria Anityasari, S.T., M.E from ITS gave a session about “Composing a Life Plan”.
The Second personal development course is a discuss session. Every group got a case studies and they are given a time to discuss about it. Later every group presentate what they had discuss. The session then closed by a concluding remark.
In the end of the day, student participants got a chance too play Indonesian Traditional Games such as Pass the Rubber, Balap Karung and Tarik Tambang. Everyone having such a great yime playing the traditional games.
Day 3 – Tuesday, 23 July 2019 thr day started with Parallel Research Presentation & Feedback session. Continued by a Lecture on Solid Waste Management: Opportunities & Challenges towards Zero-Waste. Prof. Dr. Lee Chew Tin from UTM and IDAA Warmadewanthi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D from ITS were the speaker in this session.
On the afternoon there is a site visit session. There are 2 destinantion destination headed, the first destiantion is City Council for Cleanliness & Green Open Space (Fecal Waste Management Keputih & Recycling Center Jambangan). There, they were explained about the waste management system and green open space management runs in Surabaya. Surabaya is currently developing and implementing an integrated online system so that everything can be monitored easily and efficient.
Next destination is Genteng Village: Green & Clean Kampung. Genteng Village or commonly known as Kampung genteng is one of a smart village in Surabaya. This village earned many award from the government, one of the it is a green vilage award. In this village the participants were explained about this village unique system to filter the water waste into a cleaner water. This water is not drinkable, but it can be used to water the plant.
Day 4 – Wednesday, 24 July 2019 is the third day of JWGEA. After many remarkable course the day before, there is more yet to come. The third day started with Briefing about Project based Learning (PbL) & Community Observation by Dr. Maria Anityasari, S.T., M.E from ITS. Followed by Group Discussion, Independent Site Visit, and lunch break.
The next session is Preparation for Presentation session. The speakers were Dr. Fauzan Khairi Che Harun from UTM, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Poj Tangamchit from KMUTT, Prof. Shizuyo Asai from RU, Prof. Diew Koolpiruck from KMUTT, and Prof. Kajornvut Ounjai from KMUTT. This session discuss about how to do Problem Identification, how to Generate Idea, and Solution Development. After the session there is a Case Study Presentation, Discussion, and Feedback.
The day ended with presentation of 2020 JWGEA and a closing ceremony.
Day 5 – Thursday, 25 July 2019 The sun shines brightly as the participants smile happy because they are heading to Three Colours Beach this day. This beach were located in Tambakrejo, Malang. This is one of famous tourist destination in East Java. The participants had so much fun there, they did snorkling, canoeing and boat riding. its a miraculous unforgettable experience.
Day 6 – Friday, 26 July 2019 is the last day of JWGEA, everyone packed their belongings and headed home or to the airport. This is their last day in surabaya. After a few days in Surabaya eventually they should return to their country. Its such a great time of JWGEA 2019, see you again in JWGEA 2020.
