Nowadays, global competition is something real and close to us.

We can't either defy or neglect it. As the most populated country in ASEAN, Indonesia should prepare itself to get the utmost benefit from this global competition, particularly AEC. AEC can be a golden opportunity or hazardous disaster depends on our readiness. What is your opinion about the current state of Indonesia? Has Indonesia equipped itself with required policies and actions to benefit from AEC?

A 5-days camp to boost nationalism towards Indonesia for global purposes. All university students in Indonesia are invited to enhance knowledge and skills in order to promote internationalization and face global challenges which will benefit an individual as well as the university and Indonesia.

Twenty-two student organization members from nine universities around Indonesia finished their participation in Camp Nasional Internasionalisasi Mahasiswa 2018 on Saturday, 10 February 2018. This program, which had been going on for six days since Monday, 5 February 2018, was meant not only to share knowledge about internationalization to them but also to enlighten them about their role in it.

Throughout the program, participants were provided with implementable courses in order to help them become the pioneer of internationalization in their respective universities. They learned about creating events and establishing collaboration on the international level. ITS International Office also organized a Skype session with student organizations in Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) to give them an insight regarding how an organization is run in other ASEAN universities. In addition to in-class sessions, participants were given the opportunity to visit two major institutions in Surabaya which were “Rumah Bahasa” and “Consulate General Japan”.

Friday was a big day for the participants because, on that day, they were asked to do a Three-Minute-Thesis (3MT) Presentation in front of three judges who are experts in this field: Salmina W. Ginting, S.T, M.T, Rosita Meitha Surjani, S.T, M.T, and Dr. Eng. Trika Pitana, S.T, M.Sc. The task was to present a topic specific to their disciplines in three minutes and only use one presentation slide. They were not allowed to bring any notes with them and it should be delivered in full English. The judges chose three best presenters and the winners were announced on the last day of this program.

On the last day, to spark their motivation about getting international exposure, participants were attending “From Students for Students” or better known as FS2. It was a sharing session from four ITS students who had been abroad to study, in hopes of encouraging them to grab similar opportunities and spread the spirit to their friends back home.

These 22 students not only brought home new knowledge to share with their friends but also friendships and a whole lot of memories.
