The Laboratory of Architectural Science and Technology is one of the five laboratories within the Department of Architecture, established in 1984. The laboratory focuses on the development of teaching and learning materials as well as research in the fields of architectural science and architectural technology. In addition, the laboratory supports undergraduate and postgraduate learning processes and provides technical assistance to the community, industry, private sector, and government institutions.
The Laboratory of Architectural Science and Technology defines its research direction based on current environmental and climatic issues, as well as Indonesia’s rich socio-cultural characteristics. The primary objective of the laboratory is to develop theories and design approaches for sustainable tropical architecture that are contextual and responsive to local conditions. The Roadmap of the Laboratory of Architectural Science and Technology serves as a framework for the development of research, education, and innovation oriented toward Sustainable Tropical Architecture of Indonesia. The laboratory’s scientific development is structured into six main fields—Thermal, Ventilation, Lighting, Acoustic, Energy, and Ecology—which are integrally connected and form the basis of performance-based building science studies. Through this roadmap, the Architecture Science & Technology Laboratory serves as a center for research and development that supports: Sustainable tropical architectural design Building energy efficiency Improvement of built environment comfort and the integration of science, technology, and local socio-cultural values
