Environment and Ocean Energy Laboratory

Initially this laboratory was part of the hydrodynamics laboratory. However, since 1999, this laboratory has been prepared to support the expanding Ocean Engineering Department. Therefore, this laboratory then has its own facility, a flume tank complete with supporting equipment. Now this laboratory is the center of the development of studies of the marine environment, marine energy and coastal engineering.

Hydraulic Model Testing Facility

Flume Tank:
Main Dimension: 20 m x 2.3 m x 2.5 m
(length, width and height)
Wave Generator:
System : Jenis Plunyer
Wave Type : Reguler/Irrregular
Wave Period : 0.5 – 3.0 detik
Wave Height : 0.3 m (maksimum)
Water Depth : 0.8 m (maksimum)
Current Generator:
System : Jenis Impeller
Velocity range : 2.5 – 10 cm/det
Wind Generator:
System : Centrifugal Blower
Wind Speed : 10 m/s (maksimum)

ADDITIONAL SUPPORTING FACILITIES
For the needs of coastal engineering, the laboratory is also equipped with:
Echo Sounding, Digital Direction Current Meter, Tidal Staff, GPS

APPLICATIONS
Wave Deformation Testing
Wave Reflection Testing
Wave Overtopping Testing
Wave Transmission testing
Stability Testing against Waves
Scouring Study
Study and Test of Ocean Energy Conversion Systems

  • OCEANOGRAPHY STUDIES
Location survey to obtain marine data such as: wave height and period, ocean currents, tidal data, wind roses, etc. The laboratory is equipped with computer program packages such as SMS, Telemax, etc.
  • COASTAL STRUCTURE DESIGN
Consultation on various methods of designing coastal buildings. Problem solving and supervision
  • RECLAMATION AND DREDGING
Includes alternative solutions through mathematical modeling and physical models.
  • COASTAL MANAGEMENT
Study of coastal area management problems, coastal natural resource potential. Organizing coastal management courses in an integrated manner. Mathematical modeling for coastal area studies is complemented by dynamic system modeling with COSMIC and COSMOS program packages.
  • OCEAN ENVIRONMENT STUDIES
Work on the reliability study of industries in the coastal and marine areas. Design of marine waste disposal system. ISO 14000 industry consultations in coastal and marine areas.
  • TSUNAMI STUDIES
Work on tsunami wave engineering work such as wave propagation, coastal protection and tsunami disaster mitigation.
  • OCEAN ENERGY CONVERSION SYSTEM STUDIES
Conduct alternative energy studies from energy sources from the sea such as ocean waves and currents, sea tides and OTEC through mathematical and physical models.
