Malang, July 31, 2025 — The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) has once again affirmed its supremacy on the national vocational stage through the 2025 Indonesian Vocational Olympiad (OLIVIA), held at the University of Brawijaya, Malang. By sending its best delegation from various departments within the Faculty of Vocational Studies, ITS successfully demonstrated a brilliant performance in a number of strategic categories such as Business Case and Applied Skills, simultaneously strengthening ITS’s position as a pioneer of superior vocational education in Indonesia.
Ragil Andara Putra, a finalist in the Business Case category, revealed that the journey to OLIVIA began long before the competition took place. “We participated in intensive guidance with mentors and supervising lecturers to understand the competition flow and deepen our knowledge of business terminology. Although our preparation time was relatively short, the pitching sessions just before departure were very helpful in sharpening our mentality and mindset,” he said. With a high learning spirit and full support from the advisors of the Business Statistics Department (DSB), Ragil’s team was able to overcome various challenges, including the preparation of financial projections at the final stage.
The main characteristic of the ITS delegation at OLIVIA this year was cross-departmental collaboration. Naurah Fitri, a delegate in the Applied Skills category, explained that her team consisted of students from the Department of Civil Infrastructure Engineering (DTIS) and the Department of Automation Electrical Engineering (DTEO). “This collaboration allowed us to complement each other, from funding the prototype to laboratory facilities. Guidance from two lecturers with different backgrounds made our prototype development far more optimal,” she explained. She also mentioned that despite the limited preparation time, the entire ITS delegation team demonstrated seriousness and maturity in building their work.
From the perspective of solidarity, Azzahrah Zhafirah Lisya Putri assessed that the team’s cohesiveness from the preparation period until the day of the event was one of ITS’s main strengths. “Communication and trust were important factors. We supported each other and were ready to take over the tasks of other members when facing difficulties,” she said. Meanwhile, Annisa Dessyifani shared her tense experience upon arriving at the competition venue. “The spin wheel system that determined the presentation order made our hearts race. We used the remaining time mostly for a brief practice and to pray,” she recalled.
Annisa Desyifani also mentioned that the Interior Product Design category was a particular challenge for the team with an electrical engineering background. They had to learn 3D design software, rendering techniques, product material selection, to the 3D printing slicing process in a very short time. “It felt like entering a new world. But that was precisely where we were forged and developed,” she added.
The victory of the ITS delegation at OLIVIA 2025 is a strong marker of the robust academic culture, innovation, and collaboration within the Faculty of Vocational Studies. “We hope that next year’s OLIVIA can be held on a larger scale and feature even more cross-disciplinary innovations. If given the opportunity, we want to return with more impactful work,” expressed Azzahrah. This success is expected to inspire the entire ITS academic community to continue achieving, creating, and bringing honor to the ITS name on the national and international stage.
