ITS Visit to USM Malaysia Strengthens Academic Collaboration and International Mobility
As part of efforts to strengthen international networks and enhance academic collaboration, a delegation from Institut Teknologi Sepulh Nopember (ITS) conducted an official visit to Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) from 22–24 April 2026. This visit served as a follow-up to the international partnership between ITS and USM, particularly after the signing of the Academic Exchange Agreement (AEA) at the end of 2025.
During the visit, several key agendas were carried out. The first was a guest lecture delivered by Mrs. Ida, which served as a valuable platform for academic exchange and knowledge sharing between the two institutions. The session received positive responses from the USM academic community and encouraged productive discussions among lecturers and students.
The second agenda focused on discussions regarding the implementation of the Academic Exchange Agreement (AEA) that had previously been established. Both institutions explored various strategic collaboration opportunities that could be realized in the near future, particularly in student exchange programs, scientific publication, and institutional cooperation.
In addition, the ITS delegation visited several educational facilities and laboratories at USM to directly observe the academic infrastructure and support systems available at the partner university. This activity became an important part of identifying more concrete collaborative programs for the future.
As a result of the discussions, several follow-up agreements were reached between ITS and USM. First, both institutions agreed to conduct curriculum alignment as an initial step toward launching a one-semester student exchange program. It is expected that the first batch of students will participate in this program in the Odd Semester of 2027.
Second, USM invited ITS lecturers to publish their scientific papers in a special issue of the Planning Malaysia journal, as part of strengthening research collaboration and international publication opportunities.
Third, USM is scheduled to conduct a return visit to ITS in September 2026 to organize a joint workshop. Fourth, ITS students are also planned to participate in a study excursion to USM in October 2026.
Furthermore, both institutions agreed to expand inbound and outbound student cooperation next year as part of strengthening higher education internationalization efforts.
This visit is expected to become a strategic step in strengthening the relationship between ITS and USM while opening broader opportunities for academic collaboration, research partnerships, and student mobility at the international level.
