Surabaya, 18 Desember 2025 – The Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Library has once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting the campus research ecosystem. In collaboration with the National Standardization Agency (BSN), the ITS Library successfully held a Seminar and Relaunching of the SNI Corner with the theme “From Literacy to Action: Integrating Standardization in Education and Research”.
The event, which took place in the Seminar Room on the 2nd floor of the ITS Library, was very lively and successful. The success of this event was in no small part due to the steady hand of Mr. Agus Santoso, Head of the ITS Library, who ensured that the entire event, from the flashback on the history of the SNI Corner to the discussion session, ran smoothly and was full of enthusiasm.
Standardization: A Bridge Between Research and Industry
In his presentation, the speaker from BSN emphasized that standardization is not merely an administrative rule, but rather a key foundation for improving national competitiveness. Based on Law No. 20 of 2014, standardization aims to improve quality assurance, production efficiency, national competitiveness, and technological innovation capabilities.
Furthermore, the source explained that the application of Indonesian National Standards (SNI) in research provides assurance that the resulting innovative products are safe, high-quality, and ready to make a real contribution. By using SNI as a reference for testing methodologies and procedures, research results become more credible and easier to validate by the scientific community and regulators.
The new SNI Corner at the ITS Library now serves as an integrated information service outlet that provides SNI documents and standardization references, both in physical and digital form. This is in line with the BSN’s digital service trend, which facilitates online access to SNI and ISO documents.
Strategic Support and Expectations from Research Lecturers
This relaunching momentum has received positive appreciation from academics. One of the ITS lecturers commented on the long-standing strategic relationship between ITS and BSN, one of which is through the contribution to the drafting of SNI for electric vehicles through Technical Committee (Komtek) 43-02.
In his testimony, he expressed his aspiration that the role of librarians be further enhanced in the research process:
“I propose that the role of ITS librarians in assisting with international standard searches be enhanced. In the past, DRPM had a special grant for this purpose. Perhaps next year, when there is a research budget of Rp 50 million per lecturer, opportunities for collaboration between research lecturers and librarians will become more open. By understanding international standards and SNI related to research, our research products can be closer to downstream and the market.”
This input is a breath of fresh air for the ITS Library to continue innovating. With the research budget and collaboration opportunities, librarians are expected to not only be guardians of knowledge, but also active partners of researchers in navigating global standards, ensuring that ITS innovations do not only stop at the laboratory, but are able to penetrate the market.
The event concluded with a visit to the SNI Corner and a joint commitment to make standards an integral part of the research culture at ITS.(onemore ITS)
