The Department of Mathematics, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), successfully held the Workshop in Data Science 2025 from October 20–27, 2025, bringing together 10 students from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) and 10 students from the Mathematics Department of ITS. This collaborative program was designed to strengthen competencies in data science while expanding international academic networks.
Throughout the one-week program, participants engaged in a series of intensive activities, starting with a lecture by Mohammad Iqbal Ph.D, which later became the foundation for group mini-projects involving students from both universities. The students also had the valuable opportunity to attend workshops led by Prof. Hsing-Kuo Pao and Prof. Jenq-Shiou Leu from NTUST Taiwan, enriching their understanding of current research trends in data science and computation.
As part of the academic experience, participants also joined The 9th International Conference on Mathematics: Pure, Applied, and Computation (ICoMPAC), gaining exposure to an international scientific environment. Beyond academics, cultural exchange formed an important component of the program. Students participated in Indonesian cultural activities such as traditional dance and rebana, fostering stronger friendship and cultural appreciation between NTUST and ITS students.
During the workshop, participants were divided into several groups to develop projects based on Mohammad Iqbal Ph.D material. At the end of the program, awards were presented for Best Student Performance and Best Group, acknowledging the dedication, collaboration, and creativity shown throughout the workshop.
This workshop highlights the strong commitment of the Department of Mathematics ITS to expanding international collaboration, enhancing the quality of academic learning, and nurturing young talents who are competent and ready to compete globally. The program is expected to continue and become a regular agenda with an even greater positive impact for students in the future.
