Surabaya, February 25, 2025 – Computer Engineering students at Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) gained new insights into the development of virtualization and hardware management through a guest lecture titled Virtualization and Hardware Management. This event featured a speaker from Red Hat, Winahyu H. Utomo, who shared knowledge on the implementation of virtualization in modern computing.

The guest lecture covered various essential aspects, including the history of virtualization, computing and storage virtualization technology, and the concept of network function virtualization (NFV), which serves as the foundation for cloud-based network infrastructure. In his presentation, Winahyu explained how virtualization has transformed the way computing resources are utilized and managed.

In the past, a single physical server was dedicated to a specific application. However, with virtualization technology, we can now run multiple services on a single infrastructure, enabling greater efficiency, said Winahyu during his presentation.

This session also highlighted the latest developments in virtualization, particularly the role of containerization as a lightweight alternative to virtual machines. Technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift have become key solutions in managing cloud-based applications, especially for companies adopting a cloud-native strategy.

As a conclusion, the guest lecture emphasized Red Hat’s role as the world’s leading provider of enterprise open-source software solutions. With its award-winning support, training, and consulting services, Red Hat has become a trusted advisor for Fortune 500 companies in adopting virtualization and cloud computing technologies.

With the successful holding of the ‘Virtualization and Hardware Management’ guest lecture in 2025, students are expected to gain a broader understanding of virtualization and cloud computing technologies. This event also serves as a platform for students to better prepare for challenges in an industry that is increasingly shifting toward virtualization- and cloud-based digitalization.
