On Friday, November 27, 2024, the Department of Computer Engineering at the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) held a Socialization of the Work Program for the Candidates of the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, namely Mr. Dr. Surya Sumpeno, S.T., M.Sc. and Mr. Dr. Arief Kurniawan, S.T., M.T. The event took place in the Auditorium Room on the 2nd floor of Tower 2 ITS and was attended by various elements of the academic community, including lecturers, administrative staff, and students from different generations. The event was organized to provide an opportunity for the candidates to present their vision, mission, and work plans for the upcoming period.
The event began with a speech by the Head of the Department of Computer Engineering, who emphasized the importance of a transparent and democratic process for selecting the head of the department. He also appreciated the active participation of all members of the academic community in this event, as, in his view, the selection of the head of the department is not only an internal matter for the lecturers but also involves the role of students and administrative staff in determining the direction of policies and the development of the study program in the future.
After the opening speech, the event continued with presentations from the candidates for the head of the department. Each candidate was given the opportunity to present their vision, mission, and various work plans they proposed to advance the Department of Computer Engineering. The candidates outlined several innovations and programs aimed at improving the quality of education, teaching, and research in the department. They also discussed efforts to strengthen cooperation between lecturers, students, and industry partners to create a more collaborative and productive academic environment.
In addition, each candidate explained their strategies to address various challenges faced by the department, such as improving learning facilities, developing a curriculum that is relevant to industry needs, and fostering human resources competent in information and communication technology. They emphasized the importance of enhancing the quality of lecturers through ongoing training programs and the use of digital technology in the teaching and learning process.
The event also included a Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to ask questions directly to the candidates. Several students and lecturers in attendance asked about the concrete plans that the candidates would implement to address challenges in higher education, particularly in integrating technology and responding to the rapidly evolving industrial landscape.
The socialization concluded with high hopes from the entire academic community that the upcoming selection of the head of the department would run smoothly and produce a leader capable of leading the Department of Computer Engineering at ITS toward greater progress, both nationally and internationally. This event also served as a momentum for the academic community to collectively realize a more advanced and innovative vision for the department.
