The Republic Indonesia–Singapore University Network (RI-SING UN) is a strategic bilateral initiative established in 2022 under a Human Capital Partnership Arrangement between the Governments of Indonesia and Singapore. The network aims to strengthen collaboration in higher education, research, and technological development, with a strong emphasis on human capital development, academic mobility, and innovation-driven partnerships.
Since its inception, RI-SING UN has evolved from a discussion platform into a more action-oriented collaboration framework. The inaugural virtual meeting in 2022 laid the groundwork for cooperation, followed by the 2023 in-person meeting in Bali, which produced concrete initiatives such as joint research, double-degree programs, and student exchange schemes.
In 2024, the network held its third annual meeting at Singapore Management University (SMU), marking a transition toward more structured and outcome-driven collaboration. Discussions focused on evaluating progress, strengthening institutional partnerships, and identifying scalable programs in areas such as research commercialization, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Entering 2025 and beyond, RI-SING UN has expanded its scope through more targeted initiatives, including faculty immersion programs, joint innovation activities, and thematic collaborations in strategic fields such as artificial intelligence, sustainability, and advanced technology. These efforts reflect a broader commitment by both countries to deepen university-to-university engagement and produce tangible impacts for national development.
Overall, RI-SING UN continues to strengthen its role as a dynamic platform for fostering long-term academic partnerships, enhancing student and faculty mobility, and supporting collaborative research and innovation between Indonesia and Singapore.
RI-SING UN has become a significant milestone in strengthening academic partnerships between Indonesia and Singapore. This program aims to:
Potential activities with ITS include collaborative research on renewable energy, maritime technology, and artificial intelligence, as well as joint living lab initiatives for sustainable and smart city solutions in partnership with institutions such as Nanyang Technological University and National University of Singapore. These activities may also involve student exchange programs, short-term mobility schemes, and participation in international symposia and joint academic forums.
In addition, ITS could contribute to capacity-building efforts through workshops and faculty immersion programs focused on sustainable development, digital transformation, and applied technology, while also engaging in collaborative innovation projects, including startup incubation, social innovation, and the development of energy-efficient and industry-oriented solutions.
