The Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC)

The Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium

Brief Overview

The Belt and Road Architectural University International Consortium (BRAUIC) was established on October 10, 2017, in Beijing, with 44 founding universities from 19 countries, including Russia, Poland, France, the UK, and the USA. It focuses on fostering technological innovation and creating collaborative platforms for global universities.

In 2021, ITS became the first Indonesian member of BRAUIC, marking a significant milestone in its collaborative efforts. Operating under principles of equality, openness, and win-win cooperation, BRAUIC aims to cultivate high-quality international engineering talent, promote urban-rural development along the Belt and Road, and encourage innovation. Its initiatives include academic exchanges, joint research, cultural and sports activities, student and staff mobility, and promoting the Chinese language.

Scope

Access to BRAUIC gives ITS the following:

  1. Global collaboration in architecture, engineering, and technology
BRAUIC supports cooperation among universities through science and technology projects, technological innovation, and international academic platforms across Belt and Road partner countries.
  2. International student and staff mobility
ITS can take part in student and staff exchange activities, academic conferences, science and technology competitions, cultural programs, arts activities, sports activities, and Chinese language promotion.
  3. Global Campus and summer school programs
BRAUIC provides short-term international learning programs through the Global Campus: Exchange Program for Summer Schools, including English-taught courses, internships, language programs, cultural engagement, and credit-transfer opportunities.
  4. Collaborative learning and project-based programs
ITS can join or host project-based learning programs such as GPBL, where students from different countries solve real problems in sustainable building, architecture, urban planning, and engineering with academic and industry partners.
  5. Smart city and sustainable urban development initiatives
BRAUIC activities include programs on smart cities, green architecture, AI-powered urban management, digital construction, ecological restoration, urban renewal, BIM, big data, 3D printing, and sustainable urban development.
  6. International competitions and innovation platforms
ITS students and lecturers can participate in international student competitions, design workshops, youth forums, and innovation-based activities that strengthen global perspectives and practical problem-solving skills.

Potential Activities

Potential activities with ITS through BRAUIC include collaborative programs in architecture, civil engineering, smart cities, sustainable building, and technological innovation. ITS could host or join Global Project-Based Learning programs, such as sustainable building projects, Surabaya urban case studies, waterfront development, green building solutions, and industry-based collaboration with partners like KONE. BRAUIC also supports student and staff mobility, academic conferences, science and technology competitions, cultural programs, and international innovation platforms.

ITS could also promote short-term international programs through BRAUIC, including CommTECH Camp, summer schools, smart city programs, digital construction workshops, BIM, AI-powered urban management, 3D printing, ecological restoration, and youth forums. These activities can help ITS strengthen global partnerships, increase inbound international students, support cross-border credit transfer, and expand its role as an Indonesian member of BRAUIC.
