Virtual Asia Exploration

Program Overview

Virtual Asia Exploration programme or known as VAx is a two-credit course and will be focusing on two themes which are Engineering & Technology and Culture & History. There will be six hosting institutions conducting the lectures from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and The Philippines. The host universities are 6 prominent universities in Asia:

  • Shibaura Institute of Technology, Japan
  • Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, Indonesia
  • Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Malaysia
  • Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia
  • King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Thailand
  • Cebu Technological University, the Philippines

Technology is a strong driving force to solve social issues and move our civilization forward. Engineering education will contribute to create a better society around the world. Meanwhile each country has its own culture, languages, history, ethnic groups, education, and technical advancement. It is essential to acquire application skills of engineering knowledges based on practical understanding about differences. Especially Asian region is so diverse with more than 4.6 billion population in 48 countries and 3 territories (the United Nations). Communication under the multicultural environment is a vehicle to facilitate our collaboration. Curiosity and respect to other people is a motivator for life long learning.

In order to nurture such Asian talents, this course will provide opportunities to study cultures and technologies in 5 countries (Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan) from the faculties of ATU-Net member universities. Participants will develop technical knowledge, its application methods, and teamwork spirit through lectures and group activities.

Course Type

  1. Certificate of Completion course (maximum 96 participants)
    • Those who satisfy the following requirements will receive a Certificate of Completion and a transcript.
    • More than 80% attendance (namely minimum 12 lectures) and submission of all assignments.
    • This is basically non-credit course. However, your home university may provide some credits on its discretion. Please consult with your International Office.
    • In the case you couldn’t meet above requirements and still attend more than 60% (namely 9 lectures or more), Certificate of Attendance will be issued.
  2. Certificate of Attendance course (maximum 204 participants)
    • Simply attending the lectures, but not compulsory to submit assignments.
    • More than 60% or 9 lectures attendance

Requirements

Applicant Eligibility:

  1. Open for university students under ATU Net
  2. Being recommended by the International Office of Home University or Home Institution (template is provided)

Required Documents for Students:

  1. Recommendation Letter from your university (template could be found at http://bit.ly/Promotional-Material-VAx)
  2. Scan/photo of passport or student ID from your university
  3. Passport size photo (width: 35-40mm, height: 45mm-50mm)
