Hanyang University ERICA is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the Spring 2027  Semester Exchange Program (March – June 2027). This tuition-waived opportunity is available for eligible ITS students to study in South Korea.

Program Overview

  • Tuition Fee: Waived

    • Visa and insurance costs

    • Roundtrip airfare

    • Living expenses

    • Independent quarantine (if required)

Eligibility

  • Open to ITS Undergraduate (D4/S1) students from batch 2024.

Academic Information

  • Hanyang offers around 500–600 courses in English each year across various departments.

    • Approximately 70% are major-related, and 30% are electives.

    • Students may take courses from different departments, subject to availability.

  • The course list is released about one month before the semester begins. Students should refer to the previous year’s course list: View here.

  • Graduate students may apply, but are expected to take mostly undergraduate (3rd–4th year) courses.

Credit System

  • 1 Hanyang credit = 15 contact hours

  • 1 Hanyang credit ≈ 2 ECTS credits

  • Normal study load: 15–18 credits/semester (maximum: 20 credits)

  • Exchange students must take at least one regular course to maintain their visa.

Course Registration

  • Online registration will take place before departure.

  • Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Preferred courses are not guaranteed, so flexibility is required.

  • Students are advised not to rely on Hanyang courses for mandatory graduation requirements.

Housing

  • Dormitory application opens around two months before the semester begins.

  • Dormitory placement is not guaranteed—students must apply and pay during the designated period.

  • Housing details are available on Hanyang’s website (in Korean).

Buddy Program

Hanyang offers a buddy program where current students assist international students in adapting to life in Korea. Instructions for application will be shared prior to the semester.

Estimated Monthly Cost of Living

  • Dormitory: approx. 300,000 KRW

  • Off-campus housing: starts from 500,000 KRW

  • Food: approx. 400,000 KRW

  • Personal expenses: approx. 300,000 KRW

  • Total: around 1,000,000 – 1,200,000 KRW

National Health Insurance (NHI)

  • All long-term foreign students are required to register for NHI.

  • Monthly fee is approx. 72,000 KRW

  • Separate international health insurance is also required, especially before the foreign registration card is issued.

  • Students eligible for exemption may apply individually. Further information will be shared later.

SESP Scholarship Program (NEW)

The Science & Engineering Scholarship Program (SESP) is a prestigious scholarship scheme offered by Hanyang University ERICA for outstanding students in Science and Engineering fields. Participants will undertake a one-year exchange program (two consecutive semesters) combining academic coursework and laboratory-based research activities.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Tuition fee waived under the exchange agreement.
  • Monthly living allowance of KRW 600,000 for up to 12 months.
  • Opportunity to continue into an Integrated Master’s & PhD Program at Hanyang University ERICA upon successful completion of the exchange program and approval from a supervising professor.
  • Placement in a research laboratory under the supervision of Hanyang University faculty members.

Program Duration

  • Spring 2027 – Fall 2027
  • Semester period: 2 March – 22 December 2027

Eligibility Requirements

  • Undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year at the time of application (ITS Batch 2024 students are eligible).
  • Science and Engineering majors.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA equivalent to 85% (approximately 4.0/4.5 scale).
  • Meet one of the following language requirements:
    • TOEFL iBT 80 or above;
    • IELTS 6.5 or above; or
    • TOPIK Level 4 or above.
  • Applicants without a valid English or Korean language test score may be evaluated through an online interview conducted by Hanyang University.

Research Component

  • Students will be assigned to a participating research laboratory at HYU ERICA.
  • Research areas include Engineering Sciences, Advanced Technology & Convergence, and Computing.
  • Detailed laboratory information will be provided to nominated applicants.

Scholarship Continuation Requirement

  • The scholarship for the second semester is awarded only if students achieve a minimum GPA of 3.3/4.5 during their first semester at Hanyang University ERICA.

Graduate Pathway Opportunity Students demonstrating excellent academic performance and research potential during the exchange period may be considered for admission to HYU ERICA’s Integrated Master’s & PhD Program. Admission is subject to evaluation, research performance, and supervising professor approval.

  2. Official Academic Transcript (English, with university logo and stamp)

  3. Certificate of Enrollment in English (with Apostille or Korean Consular authentication)

  5. Financial Affidavit (proof of sufficient funds)

  6. Passport (valid at least until September 2027)
