The Ernst Mach Grant – ASEA-UNINET offers scholarships for full PhD studies, postdoc research stays, and studies in the field of music practice at an ASEA-UNINET member university in Austria, open to students and researchers from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

 

Eligibility

  • Citizenship: Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam (only applicants holding citizenship of one of these countries are eligible)
  • Target Country: Austria
  • Area of Study: All fields — Natural Sciences, Technical Sciences, Human Medicine, Health Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities
  • Maximum Age: Undergraduates, Graduates, and Postgraduates: 35 years; Postdocs: 45 years
  • Language Proficiency: Very good knowledge of English and/or German

 

Types of Grants

Full PhD Grant
Target Group: Postgraduates undertaking a full doctorate/PhD programme in Austria who meet admission requirements and have completed studies outside Austria
Duration: 36 months
Grant Benefit: €1,300/month + travel subsidy up to €1,200 + mobility subsidy €300/month

Postdoc Grant
Target Group: Postdocs involved in teaching and research at an ASEA-UNINET member university in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam
Duration: 4–6 months
Grant Benefit: €1,300/month + travel subsidy up to €1,200

Music Practice Grant
Target Group: Undergraduates (or higher) in instrumental/vocal performance, composition, and conducting
Duration: 9 months
Grant Benefit: €1,300/month + travel subsidy up to €1,200

 

Required Documents

  • Research proposal (for music: CV & Audition Registration)
  • Letter of Consent from the supervisor at the Austrian host university (for Music Practice: “Letter of Endorsement” after a successful audition process)
  • Two Letters of Recommendation from university lecturers (for PhD applications, one must come from an ASEA-UNINET member university in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, or the Philippines)
  • Proof of a very good command of English (B2 or C1, depending on the degree programme)
  • Copy of passport
  • University graduation certificates with English or German translation

 

Selection Process

Applications are first reviewed against formal requirements, then evaluated by experts. Shortlisted candidates are invited to a personal (face-to-face) interview. Music Practice Grant applicants must also complete an audition process, including a mandatory interview. Final decisions are made by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women, Science and Research (BMFWF).
