Faculty and Graduate School Maritime Sciences of Kobe University Student Exchange Spring Program 2026

Dear ITS Students,

We are pleased to announce that the Student Exchange Program at the Faculty/Graduate School of Maritime Sciences, Kobe University is now open for applications for the Spring Semester 2026 (April–September 2026).

Tuition fees are waived for this program. However, accepted students will be responsible for:

• Round-trip airfare

• Visa and insurance fees

• Accommodation and living costs

• Learning materials and other personal expenses

Course Availability

Participants may choose courses only from the:

• Faculty of Ocean Science and Technology

• Graduate School of Maritime Sciences

Important:

• Most undergraduate (S1) courses are available only in Japanese.

• Good Japanese proficiency is essential for S1 applicants.

Eligibility Criteria

For Undergraduate (S1) Students:

• Batch 2023

• Good Japanese proficiency (oral and written)

• Must be from the Faculty of Marine Technology

• Required to transfer 20 SKS upon return

For Master’s (S2) and Doctoral (S3) Students:

• Completed at least one semester

• Good proficiency in Japanese or English

• Must be from the Faculty of Marine Technology

• Must take at least 6 SKS or engage in lab/research activities

3. Academic Transcript (in English, min GPA 3.00/4.00)

4. Language Proficiency Certificate

   • TOEFL (≥500), IELTS equivalent, or Japanese Language Certificate

   • Japanese certificate is mandatory for S1; optional for S2/S3

5. Scanned passport (valid for at least one year)

6. Recommendation letter from academic advisor

7. Study Plan

8. Statement Letter 

9. COE Application Form (pages 1–3 only)

10. Photo data for COE (JPEG or PDF, follow COE photo guidelines)

11. Certificate of Enrollment from ITS

12. Financial Statement (submit after ITS GE internal selection)

• Latest bank statement (min ¥1,200,000)

• Employment and income certificate of financial sponsor

13. Scholarship Form (choose JASSO or HUMAP – optional)

14. Parent’s Statement (in Bahasa, no specific format required)

• Stating financial and mental support for participation

15. GCW Non-Degree Certificate (min grade C) or GCW Test Result (min score 80)

• S2 applicants may submit R2SEP Certificate instead

Note: Incomplete or late applications will not be processed by the Mobility Team.

Optional Scholarship Information

JASSO Scholarship

• Monthly stipend: ¥80,000 (up to 11 months)

• Selection is done in two stages: university quota allocation, then student review

HUMAP Scholarship

• Monthly stipend: ¥80,000 (up to 12 months)

• For students from HUMAP member universities

• Selection process follows the same steps as JASSO

Please note that scholarships are not guaranteed. Applicants must be ready to join the program without funding support.
