About the Programme

 

The KAIST Korean Language Regular Program is a Korean language education programme specifically designed for international students and researchers in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) field. Organized by the KAIST Language Center, this program aims to prepare participants with the language skills necessary to support academic and research excellence at KAIST or other leading science and technology institutions in Korea.

Participants will benefit from structured Korean language instruction, TOPIK preparation, academic communication skills, and immersion in the academic environment of KAIST.

Location: KAIST Main Campus, Daejeon, Republic of Korea
Program Duration: One semester (200 instructional hours)
For: Prospective Undergraduate or Graduate Students in STEM Fields


Eligibility

 

  • International students who have completed at least high school

  • Students preparing to enter undergraduate or graduate STEM programs in Korea

  • KAIST visiting researchers or professionals in STEM-related fields

  • Government-invited scholars from major science and technology institutions


Programme Features

 

  • Intensive Korean language classes (Monday to Friday, 09:00–12:50)

  • Six proficiency levels (Beginner to Advanced)

  • Academic Korean tailored to science and technology fields

  • Workshops on academic writing and presentation

  • Mentorship opportunities

  • Cultural understanding and integration activities

  • Certificate of Completion issued at the end of each term

Programme Fees

 

  • Tuition Fee: KRW 1,300,000 – 1,700,000 per semester

  • Admission Fee: KRW 100,000

  • Dormitory Fee (Optional): KRW 840,000 – 1,680,000 (for two semesters)
    Note: All fees are subject to change based on KAIST regulations.


Required Documents

 

  • Online application form (via KAIST website)

  • Recent color photo (3.5cm x 4.5cm)

  • Copy of valid passport

  • Self-introduction, Statement of Purpose, and Study Plan

  • Academic transcript and certificate of graduation (notarized/apostilled)

  • Birth certificate or family registration (if applicable and required by nationality)


Visa Support

 

Admitted students will receive a Certificate of Admission from KAIST, which can be used to apply for a D-4 Korean Language Training Visa at the Korean Embassy/Consulate in their country of residence.


Campus Access and Facilities

All participants will receive a KAIST access card to enter academic buildings and use campus facilities such as:

  • Library

  • Sports complex (swimming pool, gym, courts)

  • Health clinic

  • Cafeterias and campus stores

Fall 2025 Semester:

  • Application Deadline: 27 May 2025, at 09:00 WIB

  • Acceptance Notification: 20 June 2025

  • Tuition Payment: 20–30 June 2025
