GLOBAL COMPETENCIES WORKSHOP: EXPLORING NON DEGREE PROGRAMS

Global Competencies Workshop (GCW): Exploring Non Degree Programs is a
workshop of the Internationalization and Development (ID) division of ITS International Office (IO) aiming to increase awareness of ITS student towards globalization. The workshop lasted for 3 days, held on 23 – 25 February 2018. Located at Industrial Engineering IE – 302, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember, it was attended by 128 participants from all majors and batches.
This event can also be referred to as Outgoing Preparation Seminar for participants, it is expected that by participating in this event participants can have information for preparation before actually going abroad.
In the first day, the workshop began with overview program and pre-test. This agenda was to give insight of the workshop and measure the participants’ knowledge of the overall materials. After that, Dr. Maria Anityasari, S.T, M.E., Head of ITS International Office, as the
first presenter gave motivation to the participant to be more open-minded, understand that the
world is changing, and the new challenges in this world
In the second day, there were 5 topics such as Characteristic of International Programs, Focus Group Discussion, Mastering Interview, Presentation Skills 101, and Preparation for Document Applications: Learning Agreement, Statement of Purpose, and Motivation Letter.
The participants were enthusiastic because they got much new knowledge about international programs and how they can survive in the selection process.
At the last day, the topics presented were CV and Resume, Business Letter, International Ethics, and Pre and Post Departure. In CV and Resume topic, Dr. Dhany Arifianto S.T., M. Eng. as the reviewer of LPDP gave a helpful review to the participants about their CVs and how to write a better CV. In Business Letter, the participants learned about how to write a formal email to connect with other people. In the international ethics, the participants learned about the ethics they should do and many experiences in other countries. In pre and post departure, they learned about what kind of regulation that they needed to know before or after going abroad.
As well as the first day, the participants had another test to measure how much improvement of each participant after learning from the whole workshop. Last but not least,
hopefully GCW Exploring Non-Degree Programs will motivate ITS students to never give up in pursuit of something and not to miss the opportunity for international exposure.
