The big day has arrived, today was the opening day of a series of CommTECH Camp Highlight 2017. Participants from 17 countries were welcomed by ITS rector, lecturers, staff and volunteers of ITS International Office accompanied by the excitement of Acehnese Saman Dance performed by the Dance Association of Chemical Engineering Department. Continued with the formal welcome from the ITS Rector held at ITS rectorate building, the opening ceremony was completed with the introduction of the program and the committee concerned.

This year CommTECH has raised a new concept, from the previous 10 days to 14 days with Project based Learning (PbL) method. In addition, the results of the PbL method will be presented by the participants in the CommTECH IDEAS. CommTECH IDEAS is an international student conference which invites students and young researchers from all around the world to share knowledge and ideas to solve real problems in society with multidisciplinary approach.

After officially welcomed by the ITS rector, the participants were given various kind of Indonesian typical foods before proceeding to Campus Tour activity. On this agenda, participants were invited to get around to various places and interesting facilities of ITS. They went to ITS library and were shown to the facilities offered, continue to the National Electric Cars (Molina) building ITS, which is a place for an electric-powered car development project by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia.

Also, they were  brought to the biology department to know about the making of cincau (Grass Jelly). Lastly, they were introduced to the Spetronics team. Spektronics is a Chem-E-Car team of ITS, Surabaya, Indonesia. This team focuses on constructing a prototype car that powered by chemical reaction.

The first day ends with having dinner with all of the participants and the committees. We hope this cheerfulness and excitement can last up to 14 days.
