On 27th February hospitality for international student held a campus tour and city tour. The aim of this event was to give acknowledgement about useful place in ITS and introduce several cultures in Surabaya and diversity as well. Moreover, this event also encouraged the international to get closer each other since they are still a new student in ITS. There were 23 international students who joined this event from several countries such as Timor Leste, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Korea, and etc.
Firstly, we gathered at 8 am in front of the rectorate building. Alija as the coordinator of Hospitality lead the students showing places on campus such as library, BAAK building, and several departments in ITS. After finishing the campus tour, the event was continued by city tour. The theme was about diversity in Indonesia and history about Indonesia. The first destination was Sanggar Agung Temple, which located in Kenjeran. We visited two different temples. The first one is Confucianism temple and another one is Buddish temple. We gave a brief explanation about the development of the Buddha and Confucianism in Indonesia. The next destination was Tugu Pahlawan. We learned about the history of Surabaya especially the war between Surabaya and allies. The third destination was Sampoerna Museum. We learned the history of Indonesian cigarette industry and saw the process of making cigarettes. The last destination was Masjid Cheng Ho. We Unfortunately could not visit this unique mosque due to bad weather. We wrapped up the city tour and returned to rectorate at 3 pm.
The participants were really interested to join this event. “It is really good, I can know history about Surabaya and especially about ITS itself." Said Ted international students from Korea.
