DEVELOPMENT OF FOOD CONTAINER DESIGN FOR ASIAN URBAN LIFESTYLE

Background

Single-use plastic packaging waste has become a global issue, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. The “Bring Your Own” (BYO) movement, which emerged from the principle of reuse, one of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), has become an effective solution in reducing packaging waste. However, the practice of reuse faces obstacles such as consumer concerns about hygienity, time pressure and other related economic factors. This research collected various data through observation, semi-structured in-depth interview with production partner; Swanz Brand CEO and four food container user that represents the end target user of the product. Various analysis including activity analysis and food-related analysis were conducted to map the main problem & needs. Derived from these needs, it is then concluded that a set of food container with a customizable, efficient, and portable concept is the most suitable concepts. This set consist of a classic food container with removable separator and additional compartment to accomodate various types of dishes.
