ITS Campus – Strengthening its path toward world-class university status, the Department of Statistics ITS conducted the second international guest lecture featuring Professor Muhammad Hisyam Lee from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). Delivering the topic “Winning the Publication Game: Strategic Pathways to High-Impact Journals” at Room T-102, the session was attended by undergraduate and postgraduate students and formed a key component of the EQUITY–WCU program to accelerate ITS’s target of entering the global top 300 university rankings, Wednesday 15 April 2026.

Amid intensifying global competition in higher education, strengthening the capacity of lecturers and researchers has become a critical factor in achieving World Class University (WCU) indicators. These include enhanced academic reputation, increased research productivity, expanded international collaboration, and a higher volume of publications in reputable journals.

The Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) is among seven Indonesian state universities with legal entity status selected to participate in the Enhancing Quality Education for International University Impacts and Recognition (EQUITY) – World Class University (WCU) program. This initiative represents a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology and the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education.

One of the program’s key components is human resource development, aimed at improving ITS’s position in global rankings, particularly those published by QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education Rankings. The initiative underscores the Indonesian government’s commitment to advancing higher education toward sustainable global competitiveness.

Within the EQUITY–WCU framework, the Adjunct Professor (AP) scheme facilitates international academic engagement. Professor Muhammad Hisyam Lee, from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), conducted an academic visit to ITS from April 5 to April 18, 2026. In addition to engaging in collaborative research and publication activities, he contributed to academic enrichment programs, including delivering the his second international guest lecture. The lecture took place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Room T-102, Department of Statistics, FSAD ITS, and was attended by both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The lecture was titled “Winning the Publication Game: Strategic Pathways to High-Impact Journals.”

The lecture content aligns closely with ITS’s strategic objective of entering the global top 300 university rankings, where international publications in high-impact journals play a decisive role. Such publications significantly contribute to citation metrics, which are heavily weighted in global ranking methodologies. The event proceeded successfully and attracted strong participation, reflecting the growing academic enthusiasm within ITS to enhance research quality and international visibility.
