ITS International Guest Lecture: UTM Professor Shares AI Ethics for Publication

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) delivers the ITS international guest lecture on AI ethics and academic writing at ITS Department of Statistics.
ITS Campus – In order to support the achievement of World Class University (WCU) indicators, the Department of Statistics, Faculty of Science and Data Analytics (FSAD), Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) held its first international guest lecture. The event presented Prof. Ts. Dr. Muhammad Hisyam Lee, FAPM from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). This ITS international guest lecture is a strategic step to strengthen global publication capacity.
The activity took place on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, from 08.00 to 09.30 WIB in Room T-102, Department of Statistics, FSAD ITS. The lecture was titled “From Ideas to Publication: A Strategic and Ethical Framework for AI-Assisted Academic Writing.” The session was attended by postgraduate and undergraduate students. This ITS international guest lecture focused on the wise use of Artificial Intelligence in academic writing.
Prof. Muhammad Hisyam Lee was at ITS from April 5 to 18, 2026 as part of the Adjunct Professor (AP) program from abroad. This program is part of the human resource development scheme in EQUITY of World Class University (WCU). EQUITY is a collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek) and the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). His presence was not only for research and publication collaboration but also included involvement in three ITS international guest lecture sessions.

The material delivered in the first ITS international guest lecture was considered highly relevant to current technological developments. This is especially true regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning, research, and writing scientific articles for publication. Prof. Muhammad Hisyam Lee emphasized that the convenience provided by AI must be approached wisely. This is particularly important in the context of publication, because the originality of ideas in academic development must not violate scientific ethics.
The ITS international guest lecture ran smoothly and received high enthusiasm from participants. This activity is a concrete manifestation of ITS’s commitment to improving the university’s position toward sustainable global competitiveness. This commitment is realized through enhancing academic reputation, research productivity, international collaboration, and high-impact publications.
